Biotechnology Educators Conference

The Ninth Annual Biotechnology Educators Conference will be held in Plano at Collin College - Spring Creek Campus Conference Center on June 24-25, 2009. The theme for this year's conference will be "Biotechnology: Solutions for What Ails You."

The Conference will kick off with a Leadership meeting for the Metroplex Area Science Supervisors and the Texas Science Educator Leadership Association on June 24. Ms. Ellyn Daugherty, Founder of San Mateo Biotechnology Career Pathway & Author of Biotechnology: Science for the New Millennium we will be the keynote speaker. There will also be a pre-conference session on June 24, called the "Inside Cancer" Educational Package which is a multimedia site for teachers, students, and family members who want authoritative information on the biology of a cancer cell.

On June 25, the Ninth Annual Biotechnology Educators Conference will be held which targets educators, county extension agents and food service professionals. Participants benefit by gaining access to cutting-edge research and education in biotechnology, including hands-on instruction, while receiving Continuing Education Units and conference materials. Some topics include: New Uses for Old Drugs, Progress in Cancer and Diabetes Research, and Science of Fat, Obesity, and Nutrition. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Jay Horton, Professor of Internal Medicine, UT Southwestern. Ms. Ellyn Daugherty will also be holding several workshops in which the participants can choose to attend.
